Bookmarks combine two key aspects: functionality and decoration. They allow the reader to easily return to a selected page, while also adding an additional visual element to the publication itself. It is a small detail that genuinely influences the perception of a book — both during reading and as part of the overall design.
What bookmarks do we offer at Books Factory?
At Books Factory, as part of our professional bookbinding services, we tailor bookmarks to the character of the publication and your individual preferences.
We offer bookmarks made from:
-
one-side coated paperboard 250 g/m² — also well suited for short handwritten notes,
-
coated matt 300 g/m² — distinguished by a more elegant appearance.
The choice of coating technology also has practical importance — uncoated surfaces absorb pen ink much more easily, which may be important depending on the bookmark’s intended use.
Single-sided and double-sided bookmarks
At Books Factory, it is possible to produce:
-
single-sided bookmarks — with a white or natural reverse side,
-
double-sided bookmarks — allowing full use of the design surface.
The double-sided option offers greater communication possibilities. One side may contain artwork related to the cover design, while the other can include additional content such as information about a book series, other titles or a QR code.
Bookmark refinements
Bookmarks can also be enhanced with refinements that influence both their appearance and tactile experience:
-
gloss lamination — enhances colour saturation and increases contrast,
-
matt lamination — adds elegance and reduces light reflections,
-
soft-touch matt lamination — provides a velvety, pleasant-to-touch finish.
The refinement should be selected to match the character of the publication and the style of the cover.
Bookmarks as a communication element
A bookmark is also a long-lasting communication medium. Unlike many other promotional materials:
-
it remains inside the book throughout its use,
-
it repeatedly returns to the reader’s field of view,
-
it can support visual identity or promote future publications.
For this reason, when designing a bookmark, it is worth thinking of it not merely as an accessory, but as part of the complete product.
