Metallic Foil refinement is a process involving the application of a special foil directly onto the cover surface. The result is an even, mirror-like light reflection that gives the book an exclusive and attention-grabbing appearance.
This technique, also known as digital hot stamping, enhances the visual qualities of the publication and emphasises its premium character.
What does Metallic Foil refinement involve?
At Books Factory, Flat Metallic Foil on the Cover is applied onto flat Spot UV Varnish previously cured using UV radiation. This process is enhanced with corona treatment technology, which improves foil adhesion to the varnish and increases the durability of the final effect.
Available Metallic Foil colours
We offer a wide range of Metallic Foil colours, including:
-
gold — classic elegance,
-
silver — modern minimalism,
-
copper — a refined, warm shade,
-
red — expressive and dynamic,
-
blue — cool and calm,
-
green — deep and harmonious.
It is also possible to combine two foil colours on a single cover.
How to prepare a project with Metallic Foil?
To ensure precise production of a cover with Flat Metallic Foil on the Cover:
-
prepare a mask file — its black (K) areas will indicate foil placement on the cover,
-
save each mask as a PDF file,
-
name files clearly, e.g. Book_Title_mask_flat_red_foil.pdf.
At Books Factory, we ensure that all refinements are fully consistent with the client’s design and produced to the highest quality standards.
