Endpapers are sheets connecting the book block to the cover. They serve both a structural and decorative function. We print endpapers exclusively on uncoated papers to ensure durable glue adhesion.
1. File formats
-
PDF (recommended)
-
TIFF (dopuszczalny)
2. File separation
Because the front and back endpapers are separate production sheets:
-
Prepare two separate files: one for the front endpaper and one for the back endpaper.
-
Use clear filenames, for example: title_endpaper_front.pdf, title_endpaper_back.pdf.
3. Margins and bleed
-
5 mm on each side (note: this is larger than the standard 3 mm bleed used for book interiors).
-
Keep important elements (text, logos) at least: 5 mm from trim edges and 5 mm from the spine fold axis.
4. Binding type and file preparation
File preparation depends on the selected binding technology.
A. Hardcover binding (perfect bound or sewn)
-
The file must be prepared as a spread (two pages side by side), not as single pages.
-
Half of the spread will be permanently glued to the inside cover. Do not place any important elements on this glued area.
B. Hardcover Wire-O binding (concealed spine)
-
Prepare the file as a spread.
-
The entire endpaper is glued to the inside cover.
-
The reverse side is fully glued to the cover and will not be visible. Do not place any important elements there.
